Same Sex Marriage Disagreement The definition of marriage is the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law (Merriam-Webster). This dignified act is under constant threat by lesbian and gay couples protesting for equal rights in marriage. Same sex marriage should be prohibited in the United States because the act will evoke multitudes of problems that will be impossible to manage. The plentiful list of arguments against same sex marriage outweighs its opposite in all areas. For example, the case is commonly viewed as that if the couple is in love, they should be allowed to marry. The children of the United States stand as a large issue in the decision of legalization (‘Proposition 8’). Children need a healthy home lifestyle in order to be successful and prosper in the real world. A mother and a father can provide that healthy lifestyle for their child. This process is the norm and it portrays a positive exposure to loving care of the couple’s child/children in union, religious faithfulness, and sets a good example that in the future the child is more likely to follow than a same sex marriage household would show (Dailey). â€Å"You educate a man; you educate a man. You educate a woman; you educate a generation.† (Young). This quote illustrates the importance of women in today’s society and the crucial role they play in inspiring the next generation of young women. Feminism is a social perspective dedicated to equality and equal rights between both sexes, male and female. This social perspective has been and still is practiced by millions of feminists around the world fighting for equal rights. The feminist movement has undergone three waves in the past century, changing the face of the human race as we know it. It has changed social norms and shifted the norms and stereotypes of typical gender inequality that is embedded in daily practices. And if the woman does not get fired, they typically face discrimination and outdated ideas of what a wom an can accomplish if shes pregnant or a mother. Graduating from college, having a stable job or putting up their own business and having a happy family might be the things people want to achieve in their lifetime. Many people hope for this at an early age while they still have the support of their parents especially financially. I, myself, also hope for those. I recently got my General Education Development diploma — this is already a great achievement for me. This is because I got it as a fruit of all the labor, perseverance and determination. It is very difficult to manage my life while I study. I am a single mother and I need to work for a living to feed my little boy. There were times that I needed to review my lessons while I am tending to his needs during the night. There were many nights that I have gone sleepless and still go to school during the day. But I know I needed to do everything not only for my future but especially for my child future — that’s what I always think of. My beautiful boy is the crown to all my tiredness and the everlasting joy to all my achievements. At the end of the day when I see him smiling at me, he gives me new hope to pursue what I am planning to do. Aside from perseverance and thinking of our future, another step that I took is to continue my studies. I already started college in August. I am now pursuing my Bachelor of Arts in Business through Kaplan Online. Moreover, to compensate for our expenses, I am also working fulltime.
